Description
Thurman begins by discussing the shyness he had when he was young, and how it caused him to create a strong relationship with God. With this, Thurman emphasizes the importance of a sense of validity with something greater than a human being. He also talks about his teacher of systematic theology, and how he shaped him to be his absolute best. His teacher had great plans for him, but unexpectedly passed away before Thurman could execute all of them. After this Thurman tells anecdotes about how he gained insight and experience with religion, places he went, and new ideas he was introduced to over time. During this exploration, Thurman bought a book by professor Rufus Jones, was immediately captivated by it, and then set off to meet him. Thurman would listen to all of Jones’ classes, and spend an hour each week just talking to him. He explains how pivotal of a role Jones played in his life and beliefs. Thurman concludes by reciting a poem, and declaring that his mission is to experience the idiom, which is religion and the signature of the creator.
